The Kellenberg Memorial High School Speech and Debate team is off to a great start with seven students with half qualifications to the state tournament. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Dehli, New York the weekend of April 5th.
After the first two debates freshman novice debater Allison Occhioto has gone six and two as well as senior Jennifer Puthota. Jennifer finished in third place at the last debate and received a half qualification for the state tournament.
The speech team has also started off in great fashion. At the first speech tournament sophomores Artemis Tsagaris and Gabrielle Carricolo finished in first place competing in duo interpretation. Senior Alex Belize finished in third place competing in original oratory. Artemis, Gabrielle and Alex are halfway to the state tournament. Senior Shannon Connolly also displayed a great showing finishing in fourth place competing in the drama category.
At the first two novice speech tournaments, sophomores Fiona Danyko and Maegan Cross have received half qualifications competing in junior varsity oral interpretation. Sophomores Adriell Louis and Gaitlin Gaine have also performed well finishing in the top eight in their respective tournaments.
